It’s Tax Day in America and Americans across the country can expect big changes as they file their income tax returns.
Here’s a few things you should know as you file your taxes.
National Tax Changes
The Working Families Tax Cuts Act, also known as the One, Big, Beautiful Bill, made significant changes to the national tax code — some of which are already in effect. This year, you can expect a bigger standard deduction, enhanced child tax credit, tax relief for tipped workers, and more. Detailed information can be found right here.
Arizona
Governor Katie Hobbs vetoed measures that would have eliminated taxes on overtime, tips and increased the child tax credit. Those vetoed bills also would’ve made changes to benefit independent businesses in the Grand Canyon State.
Georgia
This year, Peach State taxpayers will see a one-time rebate of up to $500. The state legislature also passed a rate cut that will bring the income tax rate below 5% this year and continue the cuts for 8 years until the rate is below 4%.
Nebraska
Nebraska is midway through a multiyear rate cut signed by Governor Jim Pillen. Under the rate cuts, the top tax rate dropped from 5.2% last year to 4.55% for 2026. In 2027 the rate will drop to under 4%.
Wisconsin
Governor Tony Evers vetoed measures that would have eliminated taxes on overtime and tips in the Badger State. Republicans in the legislature are fighting to revive these tax cuts in a special session.
