Pillen’s Tax-Cutting Record Frames His Second-Term Bid

When incumbent Republican Governor Jim Pillen first took office, he promised to reduce the size of government, lower taxes, and make Nebraska more competitive. Now that he is seeking a second term, his campaign is highlighting the economic changes implemented during his first four years in office.

In 2023, Pillen, a farmer and businessman from Columbus, became Nebraska's 41st governor after serving on the University of Nebraska Board of Regents. Since taking office, tax reform and cutting government spending have been his main priorities.

One of Pillen's biggest accomplishments has been reducing Nebraska's income tax. The state's top individual income tax rate was reduced from 6.0% to 4.55% in 2026 and from 5.84% to 3.99% for 2027 and beyond because of legislation he signed in 2023.

His administration has also invested in entrepreneurship and business development. Pillen increased funding for the Business Innovation Act to support programs that help Nebraska businesses develop, grow, and compete.

As Pillen seeks re-election, he’s running on his record of lower taxes, a leaner government, and a more favorable environment for Nebraska businesses to grow.
