Robin Richards and the New Working People Party Enter Nebraska’s Senate Race

Robin Richards is pursuing an unconventional path to the U.S. Senate after helping to found the brand new self-named “Nebraska Working People Party” this summer and then putting her name forward for the party's U.S. Senate nomination.

Richards was a registered Democrat when she ran as a write-in candidate for the Nebraska Legislature earlier in 2026. Richards did not finish in the top two slots. She finished second in the Democratic Primary for the same legislative seat in 2022.

The message of the Working People Party calls for more and bigger government, which in the end means having the government take a greater role in people's day-to-day lives.

Like the legal action around the America First Party, the Nebraska Democrats and the national Working Families Party sued to challenge the new party in court, arguing that its name and late entry onto the ballot could confuse voters and affect the Senate race. The Nebraska Supreme Court ultimately allowed the party to proceed.

Richards is now appearing on the November Senate ballot alongside Sen. Pete Ricketts, Dan Osborn, and Chuck Conboy.
