Gov. Kemp Extends Gas Tax Suspension Through Nov. 30

On October 24, 2026, Governor Kemp used his state of emergency declaration authority to continue suspension of the state’s gas and diesel fuel taxes through November 30, 2026. He issued an Executive Order  which bolsters his two previous orders that had previously suspended the state’s gas tax.

Governor Kemp cited the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday’s elevated travel demands and the corresponding upward pressure on national gas prices as the basis for his new order. The practical effect of this executive action will allow Georgians to avoid paying the motor fuel excise tax of 33.3 cents per gallon for gasoline and 37.3 cents per gallon for diesel through November 30th.

This new action follows other additional actions that Governor Kemp has ordered since September 28th to suspend state weight limits on commercial motor vehicles which deliver goods throughout the state and his suspension of tax penalties for using “dyed” diesel for road driving.

“Citizens For Free Enterprise commends and thanks Governor Kemp on his continued executive and fiscal leadership on this issue,” said CFFE’s Georgia Interim State Director Jack Stanley.
