Property Tax Alert: Taxpayers Can Voice Concerns at September Hearings Across Nebraska

OMAHA, Neb. – Citizens for Free Enterprise is launching a new statewide awareness campaign to inform residents about proposed increases to their property taxes
Citizens for Free Enterprise is alerting voters of opportunities to speak up at upcoming "pink postcard" meetings and urge local elected officials to prioritize reducing costs and limiting unnecessary and wasteful spending, rather than raising taxes on hardworking Nebraskans.
A Nebraska "pink postcard" is an official notice mailed to property owners under the state's Property Tax Request Act when local taxing entities propose property tax increases above the state's allowable growth limit.
"Nebraska families and businesses already face a significant property tax burden," said Bud Synhorst, Nebraska State Director of Citizens for Free Enterprise. "Higher property taxes make it more expensive to own a home, operate a business, and invest in our communities. Before asking taxpayers for more money, local officials should carefully examine their budgets, set spending priorities, and look for efficiencies. Taxpayers should not assume someone else will speak up. If you have concerns about this proposed increase, attend the hearing and make your voice heard."
